Restaurant Review: WA Japanese Restaurant

A quest for Rory's 11th Birthday in Lawrence ends up in a nice Japanese restaurant.

While my nephew Rory’s 11th birthday was Monday, the 18th, mom and me were in a treat having the full family here in Topeka while on a cross-country road trip which they returned home safely  to Portland early this evening. Mom had a recommendation of a Japanese restaurant, Wa in downtown Lawrence on Massachusetts. My sister, brother-in-law, nephew along with mom and me dined in at the end of the lunch service on Wednesday, August 13, 2014.

When I walked in, the restaurant was modestly empty with the time being at the end of lunch service. However, the atmosphere was very welcoming with bamboo plants and nice table settings. Our waiter was very helpful when getting an answer about a menu item for my sister. Plus on top of this bringing my nephew a free mochi ice cream with a candle. While I was not sure of the wish, he was jubilant to have his dad finally join him on the trip.

My brother-in-law and mom had a salmon bento box, and I believe my sister and nephew ordered tempura. For me on the other hand I went with the chicken teriyaki. I was not sure if the broccoli was to be cooked or not, but it was cold and hard as if just came from the crisper. The chicken had been cooked evenly and had a complimentary soft kick to the teriyaki as expected. My rice was also cooked to my expectations.
